About Cheryl Bernard

It has never been a secret that Cheryl always works hard. Not only she is a great curler, but she is a savvy businesswoman. She started her first own general insurance agency in Calgary in 1990. When she sold it, some 11 years later, she had grown it to an agency with over $5 million in sales. A little while ago, she started a new agency called “Unigroup Western Insurance Brokers”.

We are also all aware of her hard core training sessions and she sure contributes to obliterate the stereotype that curlers are not athletes. In the following video, Cheryl talks about it herself.

About Susan O'Connor

That is a video that says much about Susan. She talks about how she deals with her job while playing curling, the hard work accomplished for the past 4 years and the implication that came with Team Bernard Victory at the Olympics trials. They also asked her if she ever thought she would go to the Olympics. Very interesting interview!

About Carolyn Darbyshire

Carolyn is a very busy woman. She and her husband own Canadian Decal Installers in Calgary, with locations also in Edmonton, Vancouver and now Toronto. She oversees logistics, payroll, payables and receivables for the company, working out of the house so that she can continue to curl and be home for the kids when they get out of school.

Our favorite second headed to the Olympics as the oldest Olympian in those 2010 games. Here are Carolyn’s thoughts about it.

About Cori Bartel

In the next few days, I will try to add a little something special about each member of Team Bernard to feed my own “Team Bernard encore”. Today, it is going to be about Cori. Our favorite lead got a background in Political Science, which allowed her to work for the Friday Professional Group as a professional recruiter. She loves her job! And her colleagues really did take good care of mentioning the great performances of her team at the Olympics Trials and give her full support for her quest to obtain an Olympic Medal. Here’s this special mention that was posted on Friday Professional Group website.

Team Bernard Encore

Those “Olympics encore” left me on my appetite, and I am probably not the only one. For those like me, who follow Team Bernard for quite a while, I think I speak for most of us telling that we wanted a little more than just matches. I thought, they would add some contents like interviews or some sort of getting to know that would show the world why team Bernard is so special.

So, for the next couple of weeks, for my pleasure, and I hope for yours to, I will make my own “Team Bernard Encore” starting right now with the up close and personal interview they gave during Cup Canada in 2009. Most of you have seen it, I’ve seen it myself numerous times over this year and a half but those videos belong in this blog. I hope you will enjoy seeing them again.

Being a celebrity

When one becomes a celebrity, one can’t go anywhere « incognito ». If even more people recognized Cheryl after Team Bernard won the trial, now, after achieving a silver medal at the Olympics, going out unnoticed, is practically impossible.

Cheryl went to the Lulumon Athletica Market Mail last Thursday and gladly posed with the staff that was very proud to see her there.

Cheryl on demand "next question"

I know some of you have been looking for Cheryl’s appearance at TSN Off the record «next question». Just like you, I was really disappointed to see that the website doesn’t keep record of the episodes older than a month, so the link that I posted here when it aired on June 9th is not longer valid. But, you bet I recorded it. So, on general demand, wise Cheryl is confronting Landsberg with all kind of questions. Enjoy!

Creativity

Team Bernard is extraordinary team. These women inspire us for many reasons: they make us believe, the effort puts into their work, they got personality, class, play curling with such consistency and ability (to mention just these), but they are also muses for creativity.
