2010 Twin Anchors

The 2010 Twin Anchors starts this Thursday, September 30th at the Vernon Curling Club, BC. This year's competition includes 24 teams. This is a round robin tournament with 4 pools. The 2 best teams of each pool will get a pass for the playoffs.

This tournament was included in 2004 in the women’s calendar event, and Mrs. Bernard won the first 2 editions. In 2004, Cheryl and Susan were teaming up with Jody Mcnabb and Karen Russ. They made it all the way to the final beating Kelly Scott in Final. And it hadn’t been easy: they had to win a tiebreaker to make it to the playoffs.

In 2005, Team Bernard as we know it today, won it again with a perfect record of 7-0 defeating Kristi Lewis in final. In fact, this tournament is usually a good one for Team Bernard. The only year they couldn’t make it to the playoff was in 2008 losing in a tight tiebreaker, but they did great last year with a final.

This year, Team Bernard is part of Pool A. Here’s the schedule and their opponents in this pool. You can read more about it and follow the score here but in any case, I will keep you inform on a daily basis.

Interviews Treat - 2

This is after the medal ceremony. We see in this video that the skip had been answering those questions several times, containing her emotions better, but we also notice that she can’t still believe what had just happened. It is important to know that the team hadn’t really sat and talked together at that point.

Interviews treat - 01

I have a dozen of interviews regarding the gold medal game versus the silver medal and I am going to share some with you. The first one was done right after the match, where the emotions were still raw and not settle in. Then it didn’t take long for Team Bernard to regroup and realize what they had accomplished.

Today, not the easiest, far from it, but one thing for sure, the whole world would have hugged the Canadian skip.

Vancouver 2010- the last match

Here we are: the final match at the Olympics! On the next few days, i’ll be posting stuff related to this last match, on which Team Bernard settled for Silver. There were ups and downs that evening and it was a millimeter that made a big difference. But if they didn’t get to the highest place on the podium, they are champions in the heart of millions.

Autograph Session Pics

Technologic problems will be soon resolved, so I will be able to share the promised video in a short while. In the meanwhile, here are 2 pictures from an autographed session before the Olympics. I don’t know if you came across these but they are really hard to find. I am not sure, but I think they were taken during the Tournament of Hearts as the foursome paid a visit. They didn’t play because of their busy pre-Olympics schedule.

Proud

Members of Team Bernard were so proud to wear to maple leaf. They went to the trials and the Olympics as the underdogs and made it. They make us, Canadians, proud.

*Friend of twitter, if you pass by and see your pretty pics, let me know so i can credit you*

Inspiration

An image is worth a thousand words, but a collage like this surely says a lot more and it proves how inspiring Cheryl Bernard is. The fact that the author is from Spain only adds to my point of what an inspiration Cheryl is to many.

To emphasize the hard work, this wallpaper celebrate the 200th entry of Cheryl-bernard.blogspot.com and there is still so much left to say and share. Despite the off season, the number of viewers surprised me.

Thanks to all to pass by and stay tuned: the new season will bring lots of new contents. While sharing general information, I will keep you posted on the tournaments, the different off ice events and everything surrounding the team. This is going to be an exciting season!

If you wish to use this wallpaper, it is my pleasure if you do so. But if you want put it on another website, please, mention the source and the creator.

Cheryl at the Terry Fox run

Yesterday, I played the journalist and reported Cheryl’s thoughts about the Terry Fox Marathon of hope, but today, an image and some words are even better. Short but sweet, enjoy!

For more pictures about the event, check out the Calgary Sun. You can also see the complete video on CTV website.

The Terry Fox run day

Thirty years ago, Terry Fox dipped his foot in the Atlantic Ocean and set out to run a marathon across Canada, in the hope of finding a cure for cancer. His journey came to an end after more than 5,300 kilometers when he lost his battle to cancer.

The foundation is happy that Cheryl Bernard is this year's official spokesperson. They believe she embodies everything Terry symbolized: courage, perseverance and athleticism.

"I do remember watching Terry Fox 30 years ago," said the curling silver medalist, who was 14 in 1980. "More and more it hits me what he did to raise awareness about cancer and that took a lot of dedication. He signified hope and courage for all of us and I think it's amazing. What he would say to us today is keep doing what you're doing".

7 years ago, Cheryl’s father lost his fight against cancer. "When that happens to you, you really begin to reach out and get involved and help out wherever you can," said the Calgarian.

Each participant was given a pinny to write down the name of the loved one they were running for. Bernard was running in memory of her father.

The foundation has so far risen over $500 million in support of cancer research and Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope now takes place in more than 30 countries around the world.

2010 shoot-out: summary day 3

There wasn’t any chance for Team Bernard to make it to the playoffs, but our foursome pulled up out 2 great wins today to end their participation on a positive note. It sure let the other teams know that it was just a little rust and there is nothing that a little practice can’t fix.

Next tournament: 2010 Vernon Twin Anchors invitational starting on September 30th.

2010 Shoot-out: summary day 2

It was a hard day at the office for Team Bernard, if I can say so this way. Our foursome was playing 2 matches and lost both of them. Those were really tight matches though with critical last end, so it’s not like they were totally out of the game, they are just a little rusty. After a crazy winter season, they decided to take the whole summer off which is not their usual plan. There is no doubt that they are going to get back on track for the next tournament. This one is not over yet, 2 matches left to play and even thought there is no chance of making it to the playoffs, our girls will certainly tried to end it on a positive note.

Attached below, you can find the statistics and the current standing on the Shoot out, and a very interesting article with quotes from our Skip about this tournament, a look back on the Olympics and her thoughts about the new season.

2010 Shoot-out: summary day 1

It is the first match and it was very tight game as team Bernard lost against Team Carey 4-3. The winning point was scored in the last end by Team Carey who had the hammer. A slow start, but as some say: better start slowly and finish strong.

A reminder that the 2 best teams of each pool that advances to the playoffs. Hopefully, Team Bernard will find the right balance and momentum in their next match.

Attached below, the schedule for the next 2 days and the statistics for today.

The 2010 Shoot-Out

The curling season is about to start for Team Bernard as they are going to participate to the 2010 Shoot-Out in Edmonton, Alberta, at the Saville Sport Center. In fact, they are going to be on the ice in less than 24 hours for their first match against Team Carey from Morden, Manitoba. To be more precise, the match will start at 1h30pm, tomorrow, September 16th (Thursday).

This is a round robin tournament, Cheryl and her teammates are part of the Pool C. I will keep you update on the results during the tournament. For more details, just go right here. Last year, they made it to the final.

Between the sheets update: The lessons of the medal - Pursuing Your Dreams

I am often asked why i admire Cheryl Bernard so much. There are many answers to that but what I say first is that she dares to follow her dreams. She fixes herself objectives and has the guts to pursuit them until she reaches a final point.

Her last entry, on her own blog, covers it pretty much. A must read for everybody, fan or not: Lessons to learn through it. Go on the Canadian Curling Association website to read it!

Vancouver 2010 – Conference Press Picture

The Canadian Skips, Cheryl Bernard and Kevin Martin, speak to the media during a press conference at the main press center in Vancouver just a day prior to the opening ceremonies the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. That was on February 11th.

News Update

September already! The new season is about to start. In fact, Team Bernard confirmed their participation to the 2010 Vernon Twin Anchors Invitational, which is a World Tour Event and started in 2004. This tournament starts on September 30th. For those who just joined the curling world following “Team Bernard effect”, it is a round robin tournament and it usually includes several teams from other countries. Very exciting!

Team Bernard won the first 2 editions. In 2004, Cheryl and Susan were teaming up with Jody Mcnabb and Karen Russ. Then, the following year, Team Bernard has we know it today won again. Last season, they made it to the final.

Prior to this tournament, Team Bernard will probably participate to the Edmonton shoot out in 2 weeks. They had a very good result last year and made it to the final.

I’ll keep you posted on both events.

On an unrelated curling event, a reminder that it is going to be the terry fox run later this month (on Sunday September 19th) and Cheryl had promoted the event earlier this summer. The video can be found here.

Vancouver 2010 – Session 12 – Pictures

Team Canada against Team Russia: piece of cake. It was a great victory from Team Bernard. Team Russia tried hard but there was nothing to stop a very incredible Cheryl Bernard, even the cold didn’t slowed her down. Of course, her teammates did a great to set the table for her.

Tomorrow, I’ll do an update on the upcoming events Cheryl will attend this month. Stay Tuned!

Vancouver 2010 - Session 11 - Pictures

Team Canada against Team Great Britain: it must have been so early for a very sick Cheryl Bernard to get on the ice on that February 23th, especially that Team Bernard had 2 matches to play on that day. With the help of fans cheering and her teammates, Skip Cheryl was able to close out the match after Muirhead forced an extra.
